Fuel Hike Debate....Bravo Anwar!

The debate last night was actually lop sided. Why? Because Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek was no match to Dato' Seri Anwar . Anwar won the debate hands down. But however credits should be given to Shabery for the bravery to face the master of orator. Anwar was full of facts and well into the topic in hand while Shaberi was more on personal attacks against and trying to paint the UMNO/BN government to look good.

The points made by Anwar showed that he did his homework and understand very well the mechanisms of economics in oil pricing. He explained in limited time how he shall get the oil price reduced by 50sen the next day he takes over the federal government, by cutting the cakes enjoyed by IPP, cleaning the government from leakage due to corruption and bad management.

Times and times again Anwar mentioned that he shall not take Petronas profit away. What he shall do is to use the allocated existing government allowance from Petronas to subsidise the fuel for the rakyat. RM1b from saving from revising IPP agreement, RM1b from Petronas special allowance and the rest from cleaning the corruption and bad governance. There you have RM5b for the 50sen subsidy. Anwar showed the world what he can do but Shabery just going around oil hike due to global effect and Anwar asking the mass to demonstrate.

Anwar gentlemanly tackled the issues in the debate and shy away from attacks on Shabery's self, except for that one moment where he countered Shabery being ex-46 man. But he recovered and just stop short at that. While Shabery kept on hitting Anwar below the belt with his supporters shouting and clapping in agreement.

One thing last night, i saw that Anwar oratory skill was a bit sluggish probably due to the pressure of impending possible arrest or he not used to small audience in an enclosed atmosphere. Shaberiy spoke so well that he was foaming in the mouth!!

Debates like this should be encouraged and made a regular engagement. That way will give the rakyat opportunity to evaluate and choose their leaders.
