ROTI CANAI FOR BREAKFAST?

Malaysian Breakfast Favourite ia Roti Canai. It is a form of puffed bread served hot with curry or dhal. Tastes best when taken for breakfast or morning tea; eaten with the hand (the 'right' one of course!) or using fork and spoon; accompanied by curry or dhal and washed down with strong, hot, sweet kopi-O (Malaysian style coffee) or teh tarik (pull milky tea). Roti canai or roti chennai is a dish unique to Malaysia, which has its origins lost in the Indian community of those countries. Roti means bread in Hindi (and Malay) The term 'canai' comes from 'channa', a mixture of boiled chickpeas in a spicy gravy from Northern India which it was traditionally served with.

The ideal roti is flat, round or square in shape, fluffy on the inside but crispy and flaky on the outside. Today in Malaysia, there are many variations of roti canai such as "Roti Biasa", "Roti Garing", "Roti Bom", "Roti Roomali", "Roti Tisu", "Roti Madu", "Roti Planta", "Roti Sayur", "Roti Pisang", "Roti Jagung" etc. etc. etc., and at the roti canai stalls, non-vegeterian varieties of roti include "Marthabat", "Roti Telor", "Roti Sardin", "Roti Bawang" etc. etc. etc. In Malaysia it is served with "dhal", and, or "curry", in Thailand it is usually served with sugar, and, or condense milk, in India and in Sri Lanka with "channa", "dhal" or "curry".

While everyone enjoy the good taste in Roti Canai, there is certain unhygenic practice has been overlooked in its preparation. Eggs used for making roti telur normally come in paper tray direct from the farm. Some dirt and chicken shit do stick to the shells of these fresh eggs. These eggs if not washed properly will transfer chicken feces in your roti canai. How could it happen?

Well the unwashed eggs normally still have fractions or bits of feces stuck on the shell. You can see whitish or brownish or blackish stains or stickings on the shell. These bits are shit mind you. So the roti canai maker, will pick up the eggs from the carton to make roti telur. Without washing his hands the 'penebar roti canai' will start 'menebar' the roti and the whole roti canai become 'contaminated'. The work top and the roti dough now got shit all over. IT MAY NOT BE SEEN WITH OUR EYES BUT THE ROTI THAT YOU EAT IS ALREADY CONTAMINATED WITH NAJIS/IMPURITY.

So the next time, you want to eat roti canai, ensure that the eggs are washed. You can check this by doing visual inspection. If the eggs are still in the carton, then there are definitely not washed, so don't order. If you see the eggs are kept nicely in a bowl, then it could have been washed. Washed eggs look clean anyway. Visual inspection is essential to ensure you don't eat your favourite roti canai with chicken shit as part of the ingredientt!!.

Cucur Campur for everybody

After lunch today I was requested to scout for some tea-time 'kudapan'. So I headed for Jalan Astana in Petrajaya. There are a few stalls in front SK Enche Buyong, which sell various 'Cucur'.

You can go there and ask for 'cucur campur' where you can choose many varieties of cucur from ubi keledek, keladi, pekerdil, sushi, fishcake(tenggiri), cucur udang, samosas and many more..
One stall is manned by 2 little girls with tudung (may be aged 8 and 9) and their father with skullcap (cooking pekerdil) and long well kept beard (seem like a tablighi man - karkun). Some how, I was naturally attracted to this stall because of the pious aura that radiated from the stall ( or maybe the clean look of the stall and people manning it).

There's another stall next to it selling about the same thing, manned by a middle aged lady. I Bought some cucur from the 2 girls and because of different varieties, I bought some more cucur from the middle aged lady. And it happened that I spent twice more from the lady.

He he he...come to think about it later... I think Piety does attract rezeki(customers) and those who associated themselve to pious people tend to benefit as well!!

First Thing First.....The Beginning

First, this is of my own blog..... Have been around reading other people's blogs, some bad, some good and some awesome like MT of RPK. Never in my mind that I'll write my own blog for others to see. So it's like :-

'buah cempedak di luar pagar,
ambil galah tolong jolokkan,
saya budak baru belajar,
kalau salah tolong tunjukkan.'

Yesterday i talked to a friend in Kuching...he was quite upset with GE12 result in Sarawak.. being a young man (in his thirties) he was hopeful that Sarawak would have followed the Peninsular in teaching BN a good lesson..but alas...he said " may be in another 20 years, perhaps the Sarawakians will change".. come to think of it, maybe its true.. i've been 7 months here in Kuching, what I see, there are a lot of people do protest the existing CM regime, but instead of flying PKR/DAP/PAS flags, they are flying UMNO flags!! So quite agree with that friend of mine, maybe in 20 years....after UMNO ransack their country raked naked!!

But some people do say the next Sarawak states election in 2010 will more colourful then the just concluded Parlimen election... well that's something we shall anxiously look forward to.. The last states election DAP managed to garner 6 seats plus 1 PKR (out of 71 seats). Those were from majority Chinese area..what we want to see next is the bumi majority areas do some BN cleansing. Until then ... work hard , pray hard... let's purify our land from corruptions and bad governance.

ermmmm.....
